HFPCWU Officials meet Workers Union For Coca-cola (WUCOM) officials

On Wednesday 31st May Hotel Food Processing and Catering Workers (HFPCWU) led by its president Kelvin Chifunda meet officials of Workers Union for Coca-Cola Malawi (WUCOM) at HFPCWU secretariat.  WOCOM was led by its president Joey Matondolo. The meeting was called by HFPCWU to see if the two unions can work together in the sector. The two unions looked at a possibility of a working relationship or merger. The unions have given each other a month to do further consultations.

HFPCWU had once worked with Calsberg Workers Union of which WUCOM was part of. The merger broke down soon after the congress which was held in 2016.

HFPC WU is affiliated to IUF which houses Coca-Cola unions. WUCOM is not affiliated to any organization.

Speaking after the meeting WUCOM general secretary Blessings Jere said the parties should put aside personnel egos and fight for the well being of the ordinary workers. He said they can also benefit from their counterparts in other countries where Coca-Cola is operating
