Tripartite Labour Advisory Council meeting in Lilongwe

The Tripartite Labour Advisory council meeting is underway in Lilongwe. The Tripartite labour council is meeting of Government – ministry of labour, the employer representative and employee representative bodies which meet to discuss issues affecting employment. Hot at this meeting will be the issue of minimum wage which has lost its power due to dwindling economy. Currently the minimum wage is at 50000 a month. The other issues which will be hot are short term contracts and uncooperative employers.

The Tripartite Labour Advisory Council is established under Part 6 of the Labour Relations Act.

Reacting to this Zione Nyirenda said this a very welcome development. She prayed that those attending should put their egos aside and look at a general worker. Zione Nyirenda hoped for the best from the meeting. She thanked the republican president Dr Chakwela for advising the council to meet. The president said this during Labour Day celebrations.
