About Youth Committee in the Constituition
- There shall be constituted a Youth Committee which shall deal with all youth activities. The chairperson and secretary shall sit on the executive board.
- All members below 35 year of age shall be automatic members of the youth committee
- In addition to the aims and objectives of the union, the youth committee shall have the following duties, aims and objectives
- To organise, educate and unionise all youth and mobilize and coordinate trade union structures towards the promotion of the interests of the youth
- To engage and promote self reliance among the youth
- To provide and facilitate a channel of communication between the union and other National youth institutions and organisations
- Aim to totally eradicate all forms of discrimination against youth, and for the full realisation of rights for the youth
- Generally to undertake all other tasks for the youth approved by the executive board
- The activities of the youth shall be financed by 10% of the union subscriptions
- The structure and composition of the executive committee of the youth shall be as follows:
- The chairperson
- Vice chairperson
- Secretary
- Vice secretary
- One regional representative from each of the four regions
- The youth committee shall meet not less than two times a year
- Meetings of the youth committee shall be convened by the secretary of the youth committee
- Decisions in the national youth committee meeting shall be by simple majority
- The quorum of the Youth Committee shall be half of its total membership
- Officers of the Youth Committee shall hold office for four years and shall be eligible for re-election
- A conference for the Youth shall be held one day before the national quadrennial congress and delegates will be all youth to the national quadrennial congress
- A conference shall elect from amongst the delegates officers of the youth committee and this election shall be endorsed by the quadrennial congress
- The standing committee shall be composed of chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary and vice secretary
- The standing committee shall handle decisions on urgent matters between the regular scheduled meetings
- The secretary is responsible for directly contacting the members of the standing committee for consultations to be taken. The secretary is obliged to inform all members of the committee of the final decisions and the executive board
- All decisions taken by the standing committee shall be communicated to the rest of the members at the next scheduled meeting
